Judge Orders an End to "Don't ask Don't Tell"

Judge orders military to stop enforcing don't ask, don't tell – This Just In - CNN.com Blogs

A federal judge ordered that the U.S. military stop enforcing the don't ask, don't tell policy on Tuesday.

Judge Virginia Phillips ordered the military "immediately to suspend and discontinue any investigation, or discharge, separation, or other proceeding, that may have been commenced under the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"."

The judge had previously ruled that the policy regarding gays serving in the military violated service members Fifth Amendment rights but delayed issuing the injunction.

The military was sued by Log Cabin Republicans, a gay rights group.

An appeal by the Department of Justice is anticipated.

Just read that. I think about the way Larry thinks. Send in the straight people to start the war, the pissed of women on their monthly thing, and all the gay men to go in and put new curtains up everywhere. Seriously though, figured it was coming. They been serving for years and hiding their preferences. I guess it is about time for the U.S. to move on with this.:mooning:

Re: Judge Orders an End to "Don't ask Don't Tell"

Looks like this wasn't what Obama had in mind

"The Obama administration on Wednesday asked a U.S. appeals court to immediately suspend a judge's ruling that overturned the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy on gays.
The government says it wants the U.S. Court of Appeals in San Francisco to take action on Wednesday. The federal government is preparing arguments for the appeals court on why the ruling on "don't ask, don't tell" should be suspended while the case is appealed.
Under the policy the military may not ask armed service members about their sexual orientation and service members may not disclose it.
The Obama administration says it is in favor of repealing the law. However, the government says that letting the ruling of U.S. District Judge Virginia Phillips go forward immediately would be a major problem for the military."

Re: Judge Orders an End to "Don't ask Don't Tell"

From what I've read, they're trying to prevent a shitton of lawsuits, because they wouldn't have time to change the procedure and rules with everyone in the country if it were done like that - with their way of getting it abolished through congress, they can control things a lot more and it'd be easier. So I understand the admin., but I'm still happy about the ruling regardless.
